Observation Challenge
Join our nature observation challenge!
We invite students of all ages, elementary through high school, to seek out and document the biodiversity of our local ecosystems. No prior experience is necessary, just an openness to exploring the natural world!
There are two tracks this year, photography and art. Look below for more information.
All entries are eligible for prizes and will be featured in our community gallery.

Challenge Tracks
Select a method that best reflects your perspective and interests. We offer two distinct tracks for students to document their observations.
Participation Guide
Open to all students
Step 1: Observe
Explore a local natural area, from your own backyard to community parks to nature preserves, and look for wildlife. Any species counts, from crawling bugs to flying birds.
Step 2: Capture
Document your finding using a digital camera or phone (photography) or by illustrating what you see (art). Aim for a creative representation.
Step 3: Record
Note the location, time, and behaviors you noticed. Write down observations on the animal: behavior, appearance, identification (if possible), etc.
Step 4: Submit
Upload your pieces and observations to the form. Make sure all submitted work is your OWN. Submitted pieces will be feature in our gallery. Every submission has a chance to earn recognition and prizes.

Capture a compelling image of wildlife behavior to earn this honor. We are seeking the most impactful and clear natural moment.

Most Productive Observer
Given to the student who records the highest number of unique wildlife species. Keep exploring to show us just how much life is in your neighborhoods!
Most Detailed Observer
Recognizing the student who provides the most thorough notes. High-quality observations help us better understand our local environment.
